BAINBRIDGE, GA — “There is such a need. It’s overwhelming,” said Melodye Fredenburg, a volunteer working in Bainbridge, GA. Melodye had done disaster work after Katrina, and wanted to help again for Hurricane Michael, but the church she currently attends could not afford to sponsor her. After much prayer and talking to her husband, Melodye struck out on her own to drive from Freemont, Nebraska to the affected areas to pitch in and serve.
A pastor friend put Melodye in touch with The Salvation Army Incident Command Center in Bainbridge, GA on Monday, October 15, and she has been hard at work ever since. As a certified forklift operator, Melodye has filled a need in sorting and loading supplies at the warehouse as well as cooking, serving meals, and whatever needs doing. When asked about her experience, Fredenburg responded, “This is what it’s all about…loving your neighbor.”
