Cranston, RI – On July 6th, a Cranston apartment building partially collapsed, leaving 80 people affected. 39 units were evacuated, and residents have not yet been allowed to return to their homes. The Salvation Army has been providing regular feeding to 35-40 individuals who are still being provided with temporary housing at the nearby Hilton Hotel.

Through July 11th, 352 meals have been served, as well as 740 snacks and 1,200 drinks. The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services canteen has also provided support to serve from the hotel parking lot when needed. Emotional and spiritual care has been provided to those impacted. “The lives of many people have been adversely affected by this untimely disaster,” said Major Roger Duperree, Divisional Secretary for The Salvation Army’s Rhode Island State Command.  “It is both our honor and a privilege to serve in this hour of need. We continue to be in prayer for residents as they look for permanent housing.”
