Madisonville, KY – An outbreak of tornados ravaged several areas in Western Kentucky Friday evening, into Saturday morning. Damage assessments are still underway due to inaccessible area and cell phone outages, but The Salvation Army is providing hope and services to those in Dawson Springs, Earlington, and other locations of Hopkins County.
Road conditions in Dawson Springs are still quite hazardous, but safety officials are working hard to clear the main roads and The Salvation Army is reaching impacted residents. The Salvation Army of Madisonville, Kentucky is currently providing meals to those in shelters in the Dawson Springs community and serving needs in Earlington. In addition to food and drinks, vital emotional and spiritual care is being provided to those suffering devastating losses. Major Mike and Captain Lisa Good, Corps Officers for The Salvation Army of Madisonville, have provided 2,075 meals, 2,067 drinks, 1,140 snacks, and spiritual and emotional care for 98 individuals since Saturday when they started responding.
“We are working with local mayors from all towns to assess the greatest need,” said Captain Lisa Good. “We will continue to serve Dawson Springs, Earlington, and adjust our caravan of mobile kitchens (canteens) to locations as needed.”
