Somerset, KY – In the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes that struck Laurel and Pulaski Counties late Friday evening, The Salvation Army has been actively providing emergency disaster services to survivors and first responders. Units from The Salvation Army began offering meals, drinks, snacks, and emotional and spiritual care in Somerset on Saturday and continued their relief efforts in London on Sunday.

On Monday, The Salvation Army served both lunch and dinner to storm survivors and volunteers at Creek Church in Somerset, continuing its mission to bring hope and healing to those affected by the storms.

Captain Carrie McCall, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army’s Middlesboro Corps, shared a sobering account of her team’s work over the weekend:

“We were able to get into some of the hardest-hit neighborhoods and minister to people as they sifted through what was left of their homes. The sense of loss was overwhelming, but we saw how a warm meal, a listening ear, and a prayer could bring comfort in the middle of chaos. One woman told us that just knowing someone cared enough to show up gave her the strength to keep going,” said McCall.

The Salvation Army’s response will continue as long as needed in coordination with local emergency management officials. These efforts are only possible thanks to the generosity of donors. 100% of all disaster donations go directly to support services for survivors and first responders.
