Dallas, Texas (July 15, 2025) – After a busy weekend of supply distribution, The Salvation Army’s service is shifting from response to immediate recovery assistance in Kerrville, Texas. The focus on recovery will continue in the coming days as impacted residents seek long-term assistance to rebuild their lives.
The need for meals has decreased significantly over the weekend, particularly as many other agencies and businesses are serving food in the community. Five Salvation Army mobile units continue to serve survivors and first responders in Kerr County and San Angelo with drinks, snacks, and on the go bags. Emotional and Spiritual Care staff and volunteers are assigned to each unit, available to pray with anyone they encounter.
After a grueling first 10 days of service, Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) staff and volunteer rotation will take place this week with a new team in place ready to serve by Wednesday morning. Heavy rain in the area resulted in a challenging day of service on Monday with several neighborhoods closed due to flash flooding warnings and heavy traffic.
FEMA opened the first Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Kerrville on Thursday and The Salvation Army is encouraging those affected to visit the recovery center, call the hotline number or go online to register. Salvation Army case workers from Houston are staffing the DRC which is open from 8 AM-7 PM daily.
“We have served 63 households at the Disaster Recovery Center and will continue to administer emergency assistance at that location in the coming days,” said Kathy Clark, Incident Commander and Assistant EDS Director. “Individuals and families have been so grateful for the assistance received. An elderly couple were forced to move their mobile home, one of the few that survived the flood, from one of the RV parks that sustained major damage where the husband worked. We were able to help get their home moved and paid the first month rent and utilities for them. The generosity of the public, corporate partners and foundations will make it possible for us to help many more flood survivors in Kerr County.”
More than 60 people visited the distribution center on Monday at The Salvation Army and received cleaning supplies, clothing, food, and more. To date, 6,134 meals have been served along with 39,525 drinks, and 37,0548 snacks. As supply distribution continues 1,099 cleaning kits have been provided to impacted residents, 1,908 hygiene kits, more than 600 cleaning supplies, and 1,636 items of clothing.
“The Salvation Army is asking the public to pause sending in-kind donations. The generosity of the public has been overwhelming,” said Clark. “The call center hot line number will be transferred to 211 where they will direct callers to available services, volunteer opportunities and ways to donate. Volunteers should register at Kerrvillekroc.org, select “Get Involved” to be vetted prior to deploying. This streamlining of services in partnership with the city and county will allow The Salvation Army to provide effective and efficient assistance moving forward.”
