The Salvation Army Louisville Area Command and Kentucky & Tennessee Division are responding to a UPS cargo plane that crashed shortly after departing from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The crash resulted in at least seven confirmed deaths and eleven injuries, with both figures possibly rising as the situation evolves. Emergency responders from multiple agencies are at the scene near the UPS Worldport, where fire and debris created a hazardous environment. A shelter-in-place order was immediately issued for a five-mile radius around the airport and later expanded northward to the Ohio River due to concerns about smoke and hazardous materials. SDF closed its airfield and suspended all flights.

The Salvation Army Louisville Area Command is responding by coordinating food and hydration services as well as emotional and spiritual care with the Southern Baptist Disaster Response. The Salvation Army will be providing:

• Food and hydration to the staging area (Grade Lane) and Family Reunification Center (Taylor Blvd.)
• Emotional and spiritual care at the Family Reunification Center

This response is being coordinated closely with local officials as well as Southern Baptist Disaster Relief to ensure that needs are met efficiently and compassionately.

Major Mark Hunter, officer for the Salvation Army Louisville said “It is crucial to be able to support our first responders and the folks affected when something tragic like this happens, whether it is providing for their physical needs with a little food and water, or if it’s providing emotional support to help cope with what has just happened”

The Salvation Army will continue to serve as long as we are needed and that we are uniquely equipped to respond in times of disaster—serving nearly every ZIP code in America. The UPS has been a longtime supporter of the Salvation Army, and we offer them all of our support

Financial contributions are the best way to support relief efforts.
