ATLANTA, GA (January 25, 2026) — As a winter ice storm sweeps across the southern United States, The Salvation Army of Georgia is actively monitoring weather conditions and preparing to respond as needs arise across the state.
The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team is engaged in ongoing coordination with local and state emergency management officials, participating in planning calls and situational briefings to ensure readiness and rapid deployment of resources when conditions allow.
“Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our neighbors, especially those most vulnerable during extreme winter weather,” said Lanita Lloyd, Emergency Disaster Director for The Salvation Army of Georgia. “We are staying closely connected with emergency partners and are prepared to respond with compassion, care, and practical support as soon as it is safe to do so.”
As part of its preparedness efforts, The Salvation Army of Georgia and Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief leadership have been in active coordination, reaffirming their long-standing partnership and maintaining aligned situational awareness. These discussions help ensure both organizations are prepared for potential joint food service operations or other disaster response activities once weather conditions permit safe deployment.
Across the state, various Salvation Army facilities are providing shelter and warming services, helping protect individuals and families from dangerous cold temperatures. These services are especially critical for people experiencing homelessness, seniors, and others at heightened risk during winter storms.
“Extreme winter weather can quickly become life-threatening,” Lloyd added. “We encourage everyone to take this storm seriously, stay informed through local authorities, and check on neighbors who may need extra help.”
