Oklahoma City, OK (1/27/26)  As dangerously cold temperatures continue across Arkansas and Oklahoma, The Salvation Army of Arkansas-Oklahoma remains on the front lines, caring for neighbors facing life-threatening conditions. With the help of community partners, churches, volunteers, and local agencies, warming centers and shelters are providing safety from the cold.

In Stillwater, Oklahoma, The Salvation Army assisted a community shelter.  Guests began arriving as soon as the community shelter doors opened. Pastors, contractors, police officers, business owners, doctors, and others quickly joined the effort, creating a community response that grew by the hour.

Despite serious challenges, including frozen pipes, flooding, and emergency facility repairs, the community stepped in immediately. Even inside the shelter, guests supported one another, cleaning, offering encouragement, and creating a sense of shared dignity during a difficult time.

Throughout the storm, guests received clothing, food, water, hygiene supplies, blankets, coats, and winter weather protection, ensuring they did not return to the cold empty-handed. Beyond meeting physical needs, many experienced compassion, prayer, and personal breakthroughs during a time of deep hardship, including people taking steps to break from their addictions.

In Chickasha, Oklahoma, The Salvation Army faithfully supported local warming stations and the community shelter, ensuring that neighbors in need receive warm meals and care during the coldest days.

In Lawton, Oklahoma, The Salvation Army transformed its day center into a warming shelter with strong community support. Volunteers provided meals, snacks, coats, and blankets, and the shelter is currently serving an average of 25–27 individuals each night.

In Shawnee, Oklahoma, The Salvation Army in Shawnee is actively coordinating with local cold weather shelters to support community needs during the current weather event. 1,200 Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) meals and 100 food boxes were delivered to three churches providing relief across the city. These efforts reflect ongoing collaboration and partnership with the community and faith-based organizations.

Across both states, The Salvation Army continues to meet urgent physical needs while providing emotional and spiritual care, proving that even on the coldest days, hope remains alive.
