While it is still early in the wildfire season, several significant fires are currently affecting areas of Texas and Oklahoma. (Fires can be viewed at Wildfire Aware.) Fueled by strong winds, low humidity, and drought conditions, these fires remain difficult to contain, and forecasters are warning of continued critical fire weather and potential new fire outbreaks.

Salvation Army EDS teams in affected divisions are participating in state EOCs (Emergency Operation Centers) and local emergency managers to monitor the situation and provide support where needed.

In Oklahoma, teams partnered with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief to provide meals for first responders in the panhandle. In Texas, The Salvation Army of Amarillo and Region 4 Service Extension (Borger and Pampa) have been actively coordinating with local officials and providing services to first responders and survivors. In addition, several Evacuation Shelters have been opened, and The Salvation Army has provided meals, snacks and drinks at these locations.

As the situation evolves, The Salvation Army is prepared and ready to respond when called upon.
