Oklahoma City, OK – Multiple tornadoes swept across Oklahoma on Thursday and Friday nights, leaving a path of destruction across several communities. On Saturday, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt declared a State of Emergency for eight Oklahoma counties impacted by severe weather, including tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding that began on Thursday. Authorities have confirmed four fatalities and multiple injuries because of the storms.
The Salvation Army of Arkansas-Oklahoma immediately deployed disaster response teams to assess damage and support affected communities. In Tulsa, where the northern part of the city sustained storm damage, The Salvation Army provided more than 200 snacks, hydration, and emotional and spiritual care to residents.
While serving in the Tulsa metro area, the Tulsa Salvation Army crew met the Oklahoma State Director of Emergency Management, Annie Mack Vest, who was out conducting damage assessments with others from the Department of Emergency Management. She was very pleased to see the response occurring in the damaged area.
After conducting assessments in additional impacted areas, no further services were required at this time.
The Salvation Army continues to work closely with Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), emergency management personnel, and local partners to monitor conditions and address emerging needs across Oklahoma.
