Forsyth, GA – On Saturday, March 7, The Salvation Army Georgia Division’s Emergency Disaster Services team had the opportunity to support members of the Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF) by preparing and serving a hot dinner during their outdoor training exercise at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia.
The Georgia State Defense Force is a volunteer military component of the Georgia Department of Defense. Its members train regularly to assist state and local agencies during emergencies and disasters, working alongside the Georgia National Guard to strengthen Georgia’s overall response capabilities.
While GSDF members spent the day sharpening their emergency response skills, Salvation Army volunteers were on site providing a different kind of support. Central Georgia Corps Officers Captains Tim and Paula Blevins led the meal service with assistance from dedicated Emergency Disaster Services volunteers from the Gainesville Corps and the Newnan Service Center. Together, the team prepared and served a warm meal as a gesture of appreciation for those who give their time and talents in service to the state.
The Salvation Army frequently partners with emergency management agencies, first responders, and volunteer organizations during times of crisis. Providing meals and emotional support is one of the many ways Salvation Army teams assist responders and survivors during disaster operations.
Events like this training exercise highlight the importance of collaboration and preparedness. As agencies across Georgia continue to train for future emergencies, The Salvation Army remains committed to standing ready—offering practical support, encouragement, and care to those who serve our communities.
