Marshallville, GA — Following severe storms that moved through central Georgia early Thursday morning, relief efforts quickly began after a confirmed tornado caused significant damage near Marshallville.
According to the National Weather Service, an EF2 tornado touched down near Marshallville at approximately 6:41 a.m., packing winds estimated between 110 and 115 miles per hour. The storm carved a damage path nearly five miles long and about 600 yards wide through parts of Macon County.
The tornado destroyed four manufactured homes, overturned another, and ripped the tops from two silos, while snapping and uprooting numerous trees along its path. Two residents were injured during the storm.
As recovery efforts began and displaced residents sought refuge, a shelter was established in Marshallville by the American Red Cross. In response to a request for support, Captains Tim and Paula Blevins of The Salvation Army Central Georgia Corps mobilized Salvation Army resources to assist those impacted.
On Saturday and Sunday, March 14–15, Salvation Army volunteers prepared and served hot breakfasts for residents staying at the shelter, offering not only nourishment but also encouragement during a difficult time.
“For us, it is always an honor to serve during moments like this,” said Captain Tim Blevins. “Providing a warm meal and a caring presence is one small way we can remind our neighbors in Marshallville that they are not alone and that their community stands with them as they recover.”
The Salvation Army has long been known for its role in disaster response, providing meals, emotional and spiritual care, and practical assistance to survivors and first responders following emergencies across Georgia. In Marshallville, that mission continues as The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services personnel offer comfort, compassion, and support to families beginning the process of rebuilding.
As cleanup and recovery efforts continue in Macon County, The Salvation Army remains committed to serving those affected and working alongside partner organizations to help the community move forward.
