HYANNIS, Nebraska (March 27, 2026) – An Omaha-based Salvation Army Western Division disaster-relief team is at work today in the Sandhills community of Hyannis, more than 5 hours west of the metro area.
The team arrived in Hyannis (in Grant County, Nebraska) on Thursday evening (March 26) and immediately delivered 250 snacks to an emergency shelter, and 500 bottled water/sports drinks to the local fire department.
This morning, the disaster-relief team served up 200 breakfasts to firefighters from various departments from around the Sandhills region that are rotating through Hyannis to pick up food and supplies as they battle the nearby Ashby Fire and Minor Fire. The team is set to serve 100 lunches and 200 dinners over the rest of the day today (March 27) – and will stand by to provide further assistance if needed.
Today’s efforts are the latest in a series of disaster-relief operations that the Omaha-based Salvation Army Western Division has undertaken amid numerous wildfires in central and western Nebraska throughout the month of March. Most recently, its disaster-relief personnel provided meals, snacks, and hydration to firefighters and other first responders battling the Cottonwood Fire near Brady, Nebraska.
The Salvation Army is committed to providing support in and around Grant County – and wherever else it is called to serve – for as long as it is needed. The Salvation Army Western Division has already set up the Western Nebraska Wildfire Relief fund – to which donations can be given in support of its ongoing wildfire-relief operations in Nebraska.
