The Salvation Army Mobilizes in Response to Enid, OK Tornadoes

Oklahoma City, OK (April 23, 2023) – The Salvation Army of Arkansas-Oklahoma is preparing to respond to devastating tornadoes that have hit Enid, Oklahoma, this evening, April 23.  A series of severe storms/tornadoes continues to cross the State of Oklahoma. There have been confirmed touchdowns in Enid, OK, and the weather is still active.  The threat of severe storms continues through the evening.

The Central Oklahoma Area Command’s (COAC) Rapid Response Unit (RRU) is being activated with a crew, the Tulsa Area Metropolitan Area Command with a crew of 4 is deploying their RRU and their large Mobile Feeding Unit, and a crew of three from Ardmore, OK, with an RRU is being deployed.  The Oklahoma canteens will begin service in the Enid and Northwest Oklahoma area as soon as it is safe to deploy early tomorrow morning.  The Enid Corps will be actively responding with personnel within their community.

The Salvation Army is working closely with local emergency management, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, and VOAD partners to assess the needs of impacted areas.

Additionally, Emergency Disaster Services personnel from the divisional headquarters are being deployed to help with assessments and services.
