Following record rainfall and flooding along Florida’s eastern coast, with two feet of rain falling in a 24-hour period, The Salvation Army is supporting affected communities with shelter feeding and cleanup assistance.
In Melbourne, The Salvation Army fulfilled a request from County Emergency Management and provided 120 meals at a local shelter earlier this week. In addition, Florida Division Emergency Disaster Services will deliver meal kits and clean up kits to the Melbourne Corps tomorrow.
Elsewhere along the coast, the Indian River County Corps picked up 288 cleanup kits from the Florida warehouse for local distribution, and Martin County Corps picked up 48 kits to support local flood recovery efforts in nearby counties.
On Nov. 5, United Way of Indian River County and The Salvation Army partnered to distribute flood buckets, tarps and other cleanup supplies to residents affected by the flooding.
As more needs are identified, the Florida EDS team will provide support and resources upon request.
In the Florida panhandle, The Salvation Army continues to provide support as the communities slowly recover from damages caused by Hurricane Isaias, with additional food pantry boxes delivered earlier this week for local distribution.
Those wishing to provide assistance to those impacted by the floods or the hurricane may do so at www.HelpSalvationArmy.org.
