When disasters strike, The Salvation Army is there, providing emergency assistance to survivors and first responders. The following is a summary of how The Salvation Army is serving those impacted by Hurricane Michael in Florida:
Panama City Area:
- 28 Salvation Army mobile feeding units (canteens) have been deployed to serve in Panama City and the surrounding areas.
- The Salvation Army’s Panama City Incident Command has been established at 1824 W 15th St., Panama City, 32401.
- In partnership with The Salvation Army, Operation BBQ Relief is serving meals at 7160 US 98, Panama City Beach, 32407, and providing meals for distribution through mobile feeding kitchens.
- Up to 10,000 meals are being prepared today for distribution, and up to 15,000 meals are planned for tomorrow. These are expected to increase as additional resources arrive on-site and more areas of need are identified.
- The Salvation Army is deploying a Personnel Support Unit (bunkhouse) as well as a shower trailer to support staff and volunteers that are beginning service delivery.
Tallahassee Area:
- 11 Salvation Army mobile feeding units (canteens) have been deployed to serve in Tallahassee and the surrounding areas.
- The Salvation Army’s Tallahassee Incident Command has been established at 2410 Allen Road, Tallahassee, 32312.
- In partnership with Operation BBQ Relief, up to 7,000 meals are being prepared today for distribution. These are expected to increase as additional resources arrive on-site and more areas of need are identified.
- Personnel will be deploying with mobile feeding units to provide emotional and spiritual care to survivors and responders.
