CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 29, 2022) –The Salvation Army of North and South Carolina is closely monitoring the track of Hurricane Ian as it is forecast to make its second US landfall along the South Carolina coast on Friday. After landfall, the storm is expected to move through South Carolina and into North Carolina’s Piedmont and Appalachian Mountain region into the weekend, bringing heavy rain, flooding, and wind.
“We have alerted all Salvation Army locations to closely monitor the track of the storm and prepare for local response,” said Mike Patterson, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army of North and South Carolina. “At this point we are watching, waiting, and preparing for service. We pray that our preparations will not be necessary, but we are ready when called by our emergency management partners.”
In a disaster, The Salvation Army coordinates with community agencies and emergency management to strategically provide meals, drinks, and spiritual and emotional care to first responders and disaster survivors. The Salvation Army of the Carolinas has 14 mobile feeding units ready for disaster response.
The Salvation Army encourages all residents in potentially vulnerable areas to review personal safety plans, be prepared and follow any guidance from their local emergency officials.
