The Salvation Army is headed to Franklin and Lincoln Counties today to assess needs and provide support following severe storms and tornadoes that caused widespread damage across parts of central and southern Mississippi Wednesday night.
Early reports indicate multiple communities were impacted, including areas in Franklin County, Lincoln County, Lamar County, and Lawrence County. Initial damage assessments are still underway, but reports from emergency officials indicate hundreds of homes and buildings have been damaged, with local reports citing more than 800 homes impacted in Franklin and Lincoln counties alone.
Our Emergency Disaster Services team is headed to Franklin and Lincoln counties to assess needs and to provide food and water to the Brookhaven Fire Department as first responders continue working around the clock to serve those impacted by the storms.
While there, The Salvation Army will also meet with community leaders, assess the situation on the ground, and determine how we can best come alongside survivors in the days ahead.
Right now, many families, business owners, churches, and neighbors are facing the difficult first steps after a disaster — assessing damage, checking on loved ones, and simply trying to understand what comes next. Before rebuilding can begin, there is the hard work of figuring out what is needed most.
The Salvation Army is going in today to listen, serve, and find the best ways to help each impacted community.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
