Dallas, Texas (July 23, 2026) – The Salvation Army continues serving communities across South Texas as recovery efforts from catastrophic flooding move forward and the need for meals and emergency relief supplies continues to grow. As more residents return home, The Salvation Army is providing hot meals, cleanup kits, hygiene kits, bottled water, snacks and emotional and spiritual care while coordinating relief efforts with local, state and federal agencies and nonprofit partners.
State damage assessments remain ongoing. Officials have verified 3,711 major or destroyed homes, 8,767 homes with minor damage and 373 affected homes. 27 counties have been included in the Presidential Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance. Individual assistance has not yet been approved, though assessments continue. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has also announced replacement SNAP benefits for eligible households affected by the flooding.
“The need continues to evolve as families begin the difficult work of rebuilding their homes,” said Kathleen Kouns, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Incident Commander. “The Salvation Army remains committed to providing practical assistance, compassionate care and hope for our neighbors.”
In Uvalde and Zavala counties, The Salvation Army and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief prepared 2,000 meals Wednesday. The San Antonio Canteen continues serving meals at the Red Cross-managed evacuation shelter at the Uvalde County Fairplex, which is expected to remain open through Thursday.
Five mobile feeding units and one disaster response vehicle served residents in Knippa, Crystal City and Uvalde on Wednesday. Emotional and spiritual care teams and Canines for Christ will continue providing care to survivors on Thursday. The Salvation Army also delivered bottled water and snacks to the county’s Disaster Assistance Center in Uvalde, where residents can receive help replacing lost documents, register for cleanup assistance and access other recovery resources.
The Salvation Army plans to provide meals at the following locations on Thursday, July 23:
- Sacred Heart Catholic Church – 408 Fort Clark Road, Uvalde, TX 78801 (Uvalde County)
- Morales Junior High School – 615 Studer Street, Uvalde, TX 78801 (Uvalde County)
- Crystal Ballroom – 2116 FM 65, Crystal City, TX 78839 (Zavala County)
- Sabinal City Hall – 501 N Center Street, Sabinal, TX 78881 (Zavala County)
- Fairplex – 215 Veterans Lane, Uvalde, TX 78801 (Uvalde County)
- Private Road 4330, Uvalde, TX 78801 (Uvalde County)
Since operations began, The Salvation Army has served 10,110 meals, 9,514 drinks and 9,517 snacks and made 501 emotional and spiritual care contacts. Additionally, EDS teams have distributed thousands of relief supplies to flood survivors across the affected area.
