The Salvation Army Florida Division is mobilizing personnel, equipment and emergency response resources in preparation for Hurricane Isaias, coordinating with state and partner agencies while positioning support for communities across the Florida panhandle.
An Incident Management Team has been identified and will be staging outside the anticipated areas of impact on Friday. This team, along with five canteens (mobile feeding units), is expected to move from staging into the affected area on Saturday morning as conditions allow.
Three panhandle corps, Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach and Panama City, are preparing locally to begin assisting their communities as soon as it is safe to do so after the storm passes.
Closure Updates
The Pensacola Corps and thrift store will be closed tomorrow and Saturday.
The Fort Walton Beach Corps closed at 2pm today, while staff remained on site to ready the facility for the storm. They will remain closed on Friday, Oct. 9.
The Panama City Corps will be closed tomorrow as well. In addition, transitional housing clients are being relocated to another shelter nearby.
Coordination is underway with Florida Baptist Disaster Relief to establish a field kitchen for meal preparation, with the first hot meal expected for Sunday dinner. The Florida Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team is mobilizing feeding supplies and response resources to support activation of the Florida Baptist Disaster Relief kitchen.
To strengthen pre-landfall readiness, the Florida EDS team delivered 7,200 shelf-stable meal kits, including breakfast and lunch kits, along with bottled water and other supplies for the Panhandle Corps to access before the storm arrives.
With teams, partners and resources moving into place, The Salvation Army stands ready to serve wherever the need is greatest. As Hurricane Isaias approaches, we remain committed to providing practical assistance, encouragement and hope to affected communities—before, during and after the storm.
