ATLANTA, GA (October 10, 2026) — Following Hurricane Isaias’ passage through the Southeast, Georgia experienced high winds and heavy rainfall, but the state was spared the more severe impacts reported in Alabama and Florida.

Throughout the storm, The Salvation Army of Georgia remained prepared to respond, with disaster services personnel, strategically positioned vehicles, and emergency response resources ready for deployment should the need arise.

The Salvation Army joined other emergency disaster services agencies at Georgia’s State Operations Center, where emergency response assessments, information sharing, and coordination were underway in preparation for potential storm-related needs. This collaborative effort helped ensure that participating agencies could assess conditions, coordinate resources and respond efficiently if communities required assistance.

“Preparedness means being ready to respond, even when a disaster’s impact is less severe than anticipated,” said Lanita Lloyd, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army of Georgia. “We are grateful that Georgia did not experience the level of devastation seen in some other areas. Our teams remained ready throughout the storm, and we continue to communicate with local authorities across the state to identify any needs where The Salvation Army can provide assistance.”

The Salvation Army of Georgia continues to monitor conditions and maintain contact with local authorities to determine whether individuals or communities require assistance. The Salvation Army of Georgia also stands ready to provide personnel, equipment, and other disaster response resources to The Salvation Army’s operations in Alabama and Florida if additional support is requested.

Ready to Serve — Before, During and After Disaster

The Salvation Army’s commitment to serving people in times of need extends well beyond any single storm. For generations, The Salvation Army has responded to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires and other emergencies, bringing practical assistance and compassionate care to people facing some of life’s most difficult circumstances.

That commitment continues today throughout Georgia. While Emergency Disaster Services prepares for large-scale emergencies, Salvation Army corps, service centers and community programs work year-round to help individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, financial hardship and other personal crises.

Depending on local resources and individual circumstances, assistance may include:

  • Food and nutrition: Providing meals, groceries and food pantry assistance to individuals and families who struggle to put food on the table.
  • Shelter and housing support: Helping people experiencing homelessness or housing instability access emergency shelter, supportive services and other available resources.
  • Emergency financial assistance: Helping eligible households address urgent needs, such as utility bills, housing expenses and other essential costs, when resources are available.
  • Disaster relief: Providing meals, hydration, emergency supplies, emotional and spiritual care, and other practical assistance to survivors and first responders during disaster operations.

“Whether we are responding to a major disaster or helping a family facing hunger, an eviction notice or another personal crisis, our mission remains the same: to meet human needs without discrimination and offer help and hope to those who need it,” Lloyd said. “We have been there in the past, we are here today, and we will continue to be ready to serve in the future. The needs may differ, but our commitment to our communities does not change.

Financial Gifts Help The Salvation Army Respond Where Needs Are Greatest

Although Georgia avoided a more extensive disaster response following Hurricane Isaias, individuals and families in affected communities across the Southeast may still need assistance. The Salvation Army encourages the public to continue supporting disaster relief and community assistance efforts through financial contributions.

Financial donations are among the most effective ways to help because they allow The Salvation Army to direct resources toward the most urgent needs as they emerge.

Contributions can help provide food, shelter, emergency supplies, transportation, and other essential services. They also allow local disaster response teams to purchase supplies near affected communities, reducing transportation and storage challenges associated with unsolicited donations.

Financial gifts provide the flexibility to respond to changing circumstances, whether that means helping a household recover from storm damage, supporting a community facing a more extensive disaster in another state or meeting ongoing needs among vulnerable individuals and families in Georgia.
