Dallas, Texas (March 21, 2025) – As multiple wildfires burn in dry and windy conditions throughout Texas, The Salvation Army is closely monitoring the developing situation and has placed response units on standby.
On Thursday, the Pauline Road fire, burning in Montgomery and San Jacinto counties, was estimated to be about 45% contained having burned more than 2,000 acres. Hundreds of homes remain under evacuation orders and two shelters have opened for impacted families living in the area about 40 miles north of Houston
“The Salvation Army in Houston has placed all Emergency Disaster Services teams and response units on standby and will remain in contact with local Offices of Emergency Management and first responders in the coming days,” said Alvin Migues, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army in Texas. “The current concern is that if the fire jumps the San Jacinto River it would threaten a significant number of homes. However, the weather forecast in the area is favorable in the next few days as humidity is increasing while winds are dying down.”
In recent weeks Texas has been experiencing red flag warnings across numerous areas with several Salvation Army units supporting first responders as requested. The State Operations Center has been activated providing support and resources to the local jurisdictions. As of Thursday, March 20, there were 15 fires burning in Texas, with an estimated 35,000 acres affected.
The Salvation Army will continue to monitor wildfire conditions and stand ready to respond as needed.
