Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian, which reached Category 5, was the third costliest weather disaster on record worldwide and the deadliest hurricane to strike the state of Florida since 1935. Much of the damage was caused by flooding brought about by storm surge of 10 – 15 feet. Millions were left without power, and in some cases, entire roadways were washed away.
In the immediate aftermath of the storm, Salvation Army canteens served food for hours to lines that never
dwindled. Even after running out of food, they continued to distribute bottled water to the seemingly never-ending line of grateful residents who swapped stories about water damage and their fears while riding out the storm. In the weeks that followed, mobile feeding units continued to reach new neighborhoods as roads were made passable and coordinated its efforts with federal, state, and local officials, as well as other social service agencies.
